Stream Offered

Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the approach to streams in schools has evolved to allow for more flexibility and interdisciplinary learning. The NEP promotes the removal of rigid subject boundaries, offering students the ability to choose a combination of subjects that align with their interests and future career aspirations.

At Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), in line with the NEP framework, the streams typically offered are:

  1. Science Stream

    • This includes subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and additional subjects like Computer Science that align with scientific inquiry. It prepares students for careers in fields such as engineering, medical sciences, research, and technology.

  2. Commerce Stream

    • This stream includes subjects like Accountancy, Economics, Business Studies, Mathematics. It is designed for students interested in fields such as business, finance, economics, management, and entrepreneurship.

  3. Arts or Humanities Stream

    • This includes subjects such as History, Geography, Political Science, and Literature. This stream is for students who wish to pursue careers in fields like law, education, social sciences, journalism, and public administration.

Key Aspects of the NEP 2020 Impact on Streams:

  • Multidisciplinary Approach: The NEP promotes interdisciplinary learning, meaning students can combine subjects across traditional stream boundaries. For example, a student in the Science stream could take courses in Economics or Literature, while students in the Humanities could combine subjects like Psychology and Mathematics.

  • Flexibility: There is greater flexibility in choosing subjects at the secondary level (Classes IX to XII), allowing students to customize their academic path based on their interests.

  • Skill-based Education: The NEP encourages the inclusion of skill-based and vocational subjects alongside traditional academic streams, aiming to equip students with practical skills for the future.
